Innovation: Aromatech revolutionizes smoke flavor substitutes

Faced with EFSA’s ban of smoke flavors, Aromatech has developed a new range of natural flavors with smoke profiles. This innovation meets the new regulatory requirements while offering manufacturers a high-quality taste alternative.

 

The EFSA, the European Food Safety Authority responsible for risk assessment in the field of foodstuffs, has concluded that there is a confirmed risk of genotoxicity of these smoke flavors. On April 25, 2024, EU member states approved the European Commission’s proposal not to renew the authorization of these flavors.

Following these government announcements, which had a considerable impact on the food industry, Aromatech’s R&I teams worked on natural solutions to overcome these bans.

Aromatech now offers a range of natural flavors to replace smoke flavors, as well as natural flavors with a smoke profiles. With these two innovative solutions, Aromatech once again proves its responsiveness to the challenges dictated by the food industry.
