Your creatine iced tea passed the spec sheet. Then someone took a sip.
Creatine and prebiotics sell the label. The second sip decides whether anyone buys the drink again.
Creatine monohydrate does not dissolve easily. About 14 g dissolves in a liter of water at 20°C, and less once the drink is poured over ice. What stays undissolved settles as grit, and a concentrated dose drinks chalky with a faint bitter edge.
Prebiotic ingredients bring their own notes. Chicory based fibers can add bitterness, and fiber can leave sediment and a lingering aftertaste.
Sugar covers some of it in sweet tea. Unsweet tea has nothing to hide behind.
So the flavor work here is about covering the finish the actives leave behind, and then making the tea taste like something.
On Nov 4, Randy Martin and Guilherme Bissoli bring two functional iced teas to Chicago Section IFT Suppliers’ Day, at booth 1617, Hall G, Donald E. Stephens Convention Center, Rosemont IL, from 12 to 5pm. One has creatine, the other a prebiotic, and both come in sweet and unsweet. The flavors stay under wraps until show day.
